Historically it has been called the Fool’s Month\, a time of harmless pranks and fun. The celebration was proclaimed by Karthis during the Age of Life and embraced by the Jesters of the time. Nowadays\, the celebration of Fool’s Month is never an excuse to break Guildhall Law. \nFool’s Day\nKarthis created this holiday. During the Age of Life\, the God of Laughter would randomly pick a day in Apris and proclaim that day was a day for fools\, subjecting the whole world to twenty four hours of harmless pranks\, poor jokes\, and other silliness. Most communities don’t celebrate Fool’s Day anymore\, but those who do all pick different days. Fool’s Day is never an excuse to break Guildhall Law. \nObstacle Course\nDuring the Age of Life\, Karthis and his Jesters designed a humorous competition that consists of an obstacle course that tests physical ability and mental acuity. In some courses\, participants are timed from the time to they enter the course until they complete it. In other courses\, just surviving the run is a win. Physical obstacles consist of climbing walls\, balance beams\, spider webs\, razorwire\, and so forth. The snows begin melting in the temperate regions\, and the ground softens. The birds leave their winter homes in the Ansaki Fens and begin flying northward. Cool weather crops can be planted as far north as the Dale. \nLantern Lighting\nThe winters are long and dark in the northern lands of Shoria. On the first day of Maris\, the Shorians celebrate the summoning of spring by decorating with colored paper lanterns. The lanterns are hung along the roads and around homes as a traditional ceremony of banishing the darkness and cold of winter. \nSpring Equinox\nThe Equinoxes are especially sacred to followers of the Way of the Five who come together on these days to honor the Five by visiting local holy sites. During the Spring Equinox\, Solnus can be seen in the balance between day and night. Karthis makes himself known in that this balance lasts for one night only and soon day and night will be unequal and changing again. And Natallis is waking the world to the coming warmth. \nScavenger Hunt\nThis custom has been adopted by many cultures. In the late afternoon\, objects are hidden in a defined area and the whole community comes out to find them. In the north\, whiteout blizzards are common\, and the snow is often waist deep\, higher in some areas. The wind blows from the north pushing snow southward into the more temperate areas. During Febris snow often falls as far south as Lundelle\, and even the Ansaki Fens can have chilly days once in a while. \nMany of the holidays of Febris deal with the banishing of cold and darkness. Throughout the realm\, the tedium of winter is broken by the tradition of romance. Febris is the month of seeking new relationships and reaffirming old ones. It’s a time for candlelight dinners\, conversations by the fire\, and cozy nights under the blankets. People believe that relationships begun in this month are thought to have extra passion and last longer than relationships begun at other times. \nCompanions Feast\nThis is a special evening where people come together to share a meal as family\, friends\, or lovers. Traditionally\, single persons offer invitations to each other and set up a special area so the couple can share the meal. \nDance of Colors\nThe Dance of Colors traces its roots all the way back to the building of the Crystal City of Evemoore. Noctis and Lumina held the first Dance in the beginning of the Age of Life and the custom has re-mained the same. Women and men wear adornments of certain colors to signify their desires for the evening. Traditionally\, wearing a blue adornment says “I’m available\,” green says\, “I’m waiting\,” yellow says\, “I’ve just broken up\,” white says\, “I’m taken\,” red says\, “I’m in love\,” black says\, “I’m not interested in love\,” and purple says\, “It’s complicated.” \nGifts of Care\nIt is traditional to give flowers and other small gifts to friends and lovers on this day. The cold winds begin to creep down from the north bringing light snow and freezing rains. The nights begin to get longer and hibernating animals enter their dens for their winter sleep. \nGifts of Hope\nThis custom began in the Age of Death in the ruins of Evermoore where everyone suffered under orc rule. There was much sadness and despair. Legends say that a Jester of Karthis did not flee to the desert with the other refugees\, but stayed behind to keep alive the Way of the Five. At the end of each year\, he would bring brightly wrapped toys as gifts to the children to give them hope. He traveled from rooftop to rooftop to avoid orc patrols. He entered the homes through the chimneys. His tradition continues to this day and is practiced throughout the realm. \nWinter’s Solstice\nThe solstices are especially sacred to followers of the Way of the Five who come together on these days to honor the Five by visiting local holy sites. The winter solstice has the shortest amount of daylight of the year and is used to worship Noctis and honor Lumina. \nWinterstart Celebration\nThe whole community comes together for singing\, dancing and feasting that accompanies the largest celebration of the year. Winter start usually begins in the early evening and lasts until a late hour. Gift giving is common among attendees\, and almost every community has a Winter Dance\, often taking place in front of the decorated Winter Tree. \nWinter Tree\nDuring the Age of Life\, the great Boulevard of Evermoore was lined with tall evergreen trees\, and each year when winter began the Five-Sworn would decorate these trees with lights to brighten the city during the long dark evenings and the people of Evermoore would cover the trees with ornaments. Very convenient for anyone who wants to try live action roleplaying in Pennsylvania\, Delaware\, or New York. \n\nNovember Celebrations\nNotable things about the November or (“Novis” as we call it in game) LARP event: \nNovis is the month of Falling Leaves. The beginning of the month is spent in a rush to harvest the last of the crops. The latter half of the month is spent making the final preparations for winter.Novis is the month of giving thanks for all the good things in a person’s life. This custom began in the Age of Life when people made a pilgrimage to Evermoore and gave gifts to the Five and the Five-Sworn for creating and maintaining the realm. This practice ended during the Age of Death and the practice morphed into the present day practice of giving personal thanks for your blessings. \nElections\nThe Way of the Five encouraged rule by elected leaders. Traditionally\, the elections were held in Novis so a community would have fresh leaders to get themthrough the hardships of winter.
