Player Groups at Mystic Realms LARP
MYSTIC REALMSAt Mystic Realms, your character’s story doesn’t stop at class and costume. Purpose for your character often comes from choosing a cause greater than yourself. Player-created groups, often called Orders, are immersive organizations that shape the social, spiritual, and martial fabric of the game world. Whether you seek divine inspiration, philosophical purpose, or military command, joining a group is a way to align your character with a shared identity, earn magical boons (called group methods), and participate in deeper storylines across your realm.
From knightly banners to secret societies, these groups give structure to character ambitions and are a core pillar of roleplay in realms like Glory of Guildhall and beyond.
Joining and Leaving Groups
Characters cannot induct themselves or others into an existing group without the express permission of the group leader.
Characters may voluntarily leave the group at any time by renouncing their allegiance. Any character in a group with the allegiance skill can remove any group member of lower rank by informing that member of their removal. Characters who leave or are removed from a group immediately loose all benefits of group methods from that group.
To find active groups check out your realm sourcebook, our player content blog section, or ask around at your next event!
Group Types
There are three types of groups – divine, military, and ideological.
Divine groups
Focus on religions and the worshiping of deities. The leader is often called a high priest, bishop, or another honorific title of spiritual distinction. This person is usually the person with the direct link to the source of the divine group and sets standards for worship. Divine groups teach social conventions, establish moralities, and encourage spiritual development.
Ideological groups
Are not in Guildhall but are in other realms. They focus on intellectual or philosophical principles. Secret societies, political action unions, criminal organizations, philosophy leagues, and academic specialties are just a few examples of people united by similar convictions. Ideological groups advance theories, explore enlightenment, and generally try to advance the understanding of subjects.
Military groups
Focus on martial organization. The leader is often called Commander, First Knight, Colonel, or a similar military title. The leader commands in battle and enforces the tenets of the unit. Military groups train in combat tactics defining a battlefield role for each member.
Many groups will either be religious, military, or philosophical. It is possible for a single group to be multipurpose (more than one type) when people work together to create a single group. In this case, characters with group methods may share the duties of casting group methods based on their contribution (military, philosophical or religious) to the group as defined by the documents creating the group.
A character may only have an allegiance to one group type (military, philosophical or religious) at a time. If a group has multiple types, the player may, if permitted by the group documents, choose to follow only one aspect of the group. For example, a player could follow the military aspect of a military/religious group and follow the religious aspect of another military/religious group.
Creating a Group
Characters wishing to create a group must write an in-play document that defines the group’s name and type, color scheme, motto, symbol, or chosen insight.
Name and Type:
The group must have its own unique name so that it is not confused with an existing group. The group is declared as religious, ideological, or military. If characters of different types work together they may declare the group to have multi-purpose.
Group Definition:
Members must know the belief systems and the organizational structure of the group. At a minimum, they should understand the basic convictions or principles that members must uphold, as well as the positions within the group. This section will include prayers, chants, tenants, codes, dissertations, and/or philosophical axioms that would be appropriate for the theme of the group.
Color Scheme:
The document should describe a color scheme consisting of at least two colors that will be worn by members to identify the group. The color scheme must show prominently in the group uniform and group standard.
Motto:
The motto is a short phrase that sums up the focus of the group. “Do a good turn daily.” “Yield to none.” “Ever the faithful.” “Defending the Dream.” The motto is often placed on the face of shields or the surface of weapons.
Symbol:
Every group must create a unique symbol. This can be in the style of a complex crest or as simple geometric shapes combined to give a unique look. When a symbol is required as part of a group method, the symbol must be at least 2 inches in diameter if it is placed on the body, worn on clothing covering a limb, or placed on a non-shield weapon or medallion. The symbol must be at least 8 inches in diameter if placed on a banner, wall hanging, or shield. The symbol must include the group color scheme.
Insight:
A group may choose to represent one type of mystic energy. The color associated with this energy must be incorporated as a color of the group. The insight associated with the group is chosen at the time the group is created.
