February Celebrations

Notable things about the February (or “Febris” as we call it in-game) LARP event: Febris is the month of Drifting Snow. In the north, whiteout blizzards are common, and the snow is often waist deep, higher in some areas. The wind blows from the north pushing snow southward into the more temperate areas. During Febris snow often falls as far south as Lundelle, and even the Ansaki Fens can have chilly days once in a while. Many of the holidays of Febris deal with the banishing of cold and darkness. Throughout the realm, the tedium of winter is broken by the tradition of romance. Febris is the month of seeking new relationships and reaffirming old ones. It’s a time for candlelight dinners, conversations by the fire, and cozy nights under the blankets. People believe that relationships begun in this month are thought to have extra passion and last longer than relationships begun at other times.

Companions Feast

This is a special evening where people come together to share a meal as family, friends, or lovers. Traditionally, single persons offer invitations to each other and set up a special area so the couple can share the meal.

Dance of Colors

The Dance of Colors traces its roots all the way back to the building of the Crystal City of Evemoore. Noctis and Lumina held the first Dance in the beginning of the Age of Life and the custom has re- mained the same. Women and men wear adornments of certain colors to signify their desires for the evening. Traditionally, wearing a blue adornment says “I’m available,” green says, “I’m waiting,” yellow says, “I’ve just broken up,” white says, “I’m taken,” red says, “I’m in love,” black says, “I’m not interested in love,” and purple says, “It’s complicated.”

Gifts of Care

It is traditional to give flowers and other small gifts to friends and lovers on this day. Traditional gifts contain colors. Red declares passionate love, white declares companionate love, and pink offers a little of both. People will often address the gift to a person and leave the gift to be found with a short note with clues to their identity, often in poems. The notes will often offer a clandestine meeting.

Eldinmas

Eldinmas is a traditional Holt holiday. This time of year is marked by pageants recalling Eldin’s creation, his crusade against the orcs, and finally his great victory over Grotar. Great bonfires are lit in the center of Holt towns where they burn for days, and each family carries home a candle lit from this fire “to spread the light of Eldin.” This is the traditional day for inductions into the Order of Eldin. Families with members in the Order will also present them with new Eldinite tabards and regalia on this day.

Xanadu Trysts

Followers of Xanadu honor their goddess during the month of Febris with various activities including festivals where visitors can experience the paths of pleasure, pain and death.
